As I pointed out yesterday the vandal suspect is James Polite, a black, gay, black studies major with close ties to the mainstream Democratic establishment in New York City, who had served as an intern working on anti-hate crime projects for the lesbian speaker of the city council, Christine Quinn.
Rosiak takes a deep dive into the Facebook of Polite, who, during his bipolar manic spells unloads racial resentment of, I’m guessing, his most recent liberal Jewish foster parents’ lifestyle and worldview:

It appears that on November 1 he also set a number of fires at Williamsburg synagogues. Fortunately, none of them appear to have spread. But as I mentioned a few weeks ago, it would be wise for pundits to ease off on the “burn down” metaphors, such as the recent NYT column:

You can use “tear down” or “knock down” or the like. But there really are pyromaniacs out there, so try not to inspire them.
