On the weekend of July 22nd, Chicago Illinois saw 65 people shot, and five dead from gun violence. Notice the quotations around “gun-violence,” because the unfortunate reality of Chicago is that these shootings are overwhelmingly committed by “Black people, frankly”

2011 was the last year the public received clear data on the race of suspects in Chicago. That year the Chicago Police Department confirmed that 95% of homicide suspects were black or brown, with Whites accounting for only 4% of suspects.

HeyJackAss.com, a website dedicated to documenting shootings in the Second City, confirms that the 2011 numbers still hold true today. In 2020 the site reported that blacks were responsible for 77.8% of shootings and Hispanics were responsible for 16.6%.

All this while the city is relatively evenly split, demographically speaking, with Whites, Hispanics, and Blacks each comprising roughly 33% of the city’s population. However, in the year 1940, Chicago was 92% white. 

The question we are not supposed to ask: had the Great Replacement not occurred in Chicago, would we have any need to be tallying up fatal/nonfatal shootings in the Second City as sport?
