It’s the 30th anniversary of Colin Ferguson’s Long Island Railroad Massacre, written up in the NY Post [LIRR massacre survivors share how the horrific mass shooting still affects them 30 years later, by Gavin Newsham, NY Post, December 2, 2023].

I remember reading about this in the 90s,  when it happened, and when it was featured in VDARE.com editor Peter Brimelow’s 1995 book Alien Nation. I quoted it in my first post 9/11 column here:

…In February 1993, a gang of Middle Easterners, (mostly illegally overstaying after entering on non-immigrant visas—one banned as a terrorist but admitted on a tourist visa in error) blow up New York’s World Trade center, killing six and injuring more than 1,000!! In December 1993, a Jamaican immigrant (admitted as a student, but stayed, illegal status automatically regularized after marriage to a U.S. citizen) opens fire on commuters on New York’s Long Island Rail Road, killing six and wounding 19!!! WHAT’S GOING ON??!!? [Emphases added]

On VDARE.com we write about Immigrant Mass Murders (Virginia Tech is one of the most famous) where immigrants shoot up a lot of Americans, frequently out of resentment. We also have a category we call ”Disgruntled Minority Massacres,” where blacks (and sometimes Hispanics) will shoot up whites, frequently ex-employers or workmates, because of ”racism,” i.e., their perception of whites as racist, but really, of course, their own anti-white racism.

Because he’s a Jamaican illegal immigrant who targeted whites because of what defense [!] attorney William Kunstler called ”black rage,” the Colin Ferguson attack is both an Immigrant Mass Murder and a Disgruntled Minority Massacre.

Because American politics doesn’t recognize these categories, it’s treated by the MSM and politicians as a gun control issue.

Prudential Securities office manager Dennis McCarthy, 52, was one of the white victims. His widow, former Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, went into politics in the hope of restricting American’s gun rights outside New York State. (All of Ferguson’s victims were unarmed by law, and Ferguson had to travel out of state to purchase his gun.)

She’s quoted in the NY Post article above:

For Brooklyn-born McCarthy, a nurse by training, the tragedy of losing her husband and almost losing her son propelled her into politics to push for gun control.

She served in Congress for 18 years before retiring in 2015.

Her advocacy did not come easy.

“When I was standing, the National Rifle Association (NRA) would come to all my speeches and say terrible things,” she recalled.

“But I’d just say my son has life-altering injuries and I don’t have a husband any more.

In an earlier article, I wrote

And that’s the point.

One final fact: John Derbyshire rode the Long Island Railroad for years, and he was nearly on that same train.

He wrote in Chapter 6 of We Are Doomed:

I came home from work on the Long Island Railroad one day in December, 1993.  My train was right behind the one in which Colin Ferguson went berserk and shot 25 people [6 died].  We were held up for a long time, and there were no cell phones.

My poor wife was at home, watching news of the shooting on TV.  For all she knew, I might have been among the dead.  Kind neighbors came round to keep her company.  Telling me about it afterwards, she remarked: ”They kept saying the same thing: ’It must be a black guy.  If it was a white guy, they would have told us ...’”
