Obama obviously thinks that the Congressional GOP leadership simply lacks the courage, and no doubt the motivation, to stand up to his lawlessness. Some immigration patriots are quailing at impeachment too, for example RedState's Erick Erickson (here) and Daily Caller's Mickey Kaus (here).
Of course impeachment will cause MSM hysterics, at a time when Conservatism Inc. hopes to coast to a mid-term election victory just by pretending to offer an alternative to the Obama Regime. But Obama, who has a well-developed sense of entitlement, may not let them.
On the bright side, how many Democratic Senators really want to vote, in effect in an impeachment trial, for an extra-legal Amnesty, in an election year?
