06/27/10 - A California Reader Says Obama Has Pushed Middle America Back To The Right

From: Stacy Winn (e-mail her)

Re: Rob Sanchez's Blog: John Deere CEO Says U.S. Needs A Lot More H-1Bs

If John Deere were the only major corporation lobbying for more H-1B visas to subvert American workers, the job market might not seem so dire.

But after adding Disney, Boeing, Hewlett-Packard and News Corporation to the group, it's clear what we are up against. They joined illegal immigrant-loving New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in what they deceptively call the Partnership for a New American Economy. Translation: no Americans need apply.

Said Disney Chairman and CEO Robert Iger:

"It's our great strength as a nation, and it's also critical for continued economic growth. To remain competitive in the 21st century, we need effective immigration reform that invites people to contribute to our shared success by building their own American dream." [NYC Mayor, Major CEOs Lobby for Immigration Reform, by Sara Kugler Frazer, Associated Press, June 24, 2010]

This puffery is all well and good for Iger and his CEO peers who earn big bucks salaries with generous perks or for Bloomberg who has more billions than he can count. But adding more foreign-born workers doesn't sound so great to the tens of millions of Americans who cannot find a job.

With summer underway and the talk of boycotts much in the news, how about boycotting Disney theme parks, movies, DVDs and all its other products?

Winn is a social services manager for a leading hospitality firm that, she writes, employs "a lot" of H-1B workers.
