Virginia State Police say the arrest of Jesse Leroy Matthew in connection with the disappearance of Hannah Graham, a sophomore at the University of Virgina, is a big break in the case of Morgan Harrington, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports. Harrington went missing just about 5 years ago after she left a concert at Charlottesville's John Paul Jones Arena. Cops found the Virginia Tech student's remains on Jan. 26, 2010.
"For the past five years, the Virginia State Police has been aggressively pursuing the investigation into the disappearance and death of 20-year-old Morgan D. Harrington of Roanoke," said Corinne Geller of the Virginia State Police.

"Last week, the arrest of Jesse L. Matthew Jr., 32, of Charlottesville, Va., provided a significant break in this case with a new forensic link for state police investigators to pursue. There is a still a great deal of work to be done in regards to this investigation and we appreciate the public’s patience as we move forward."

Harrington's murder was savage. In March 2010, the alternative weekly "The Hook" quoted Harrington's distraught mother, Gil:
"He chooses to kill in a savage and brutal way," says Gil Harrington, an oncology nurse, of her daughter's killer, "to break her bones before he murdered her." Dan Harrington, a psychiatrist, confirms that his daughter's skeleton showed "brutal damage."
The murderer was, Gil Harrington said, a "violent, sadistic and dangerous man." Here is that man's police sketch. Does he resemble Matthew? We report. You decide.
