If President Barack Obama and Congress ever actually get around to debating "comprehensive immigration reform", they need to first  

• Recognize and admit how miserably they failed less than a generation after the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act was sold to us as a permanent solution to the illegal alien crisis.
   
• Determine what stopped enforcement of that law, which supposedly prohibited hiring illegal aliens and how that violation was allowed to continue.
   
• Get serious about border security and interior enforcement.
   
• End birthright citizenship and terminate all the social services that anchor babies and their alien parents currently tap into.

These steps, mind you, are only the beginning.
