His name is Jacob Hills: a White teenager murdered after being shot in the back multiple times by a Black career criminal who slipped through the cracks of the justice system.

23-year-old Avion Sanders is now charged with last month’s murder of 18-year-old Jacob Hills in Detroit.

Jacob’s mother says her son had just recently purchased a new rifle, and brought it with him to a party with friends in Detroit.

Allegedly, Sanders took Jacob’s rifle, shot the 18-year-old multiple times in the back, and abandoned Jacob’s car outside of a hookah lounge in Dearborn Heights.

Jacob’s body was found in the basement of a parking garage within a Detroit apartment complex.

But the murder could have been prevented if Sanders was appropriately taken into custody for a prior incident.

In October 2020, Sanders was arrested after firing gunshots at his girlfriend and her child.

He then faced multiple charges including those for felony possession of firearms, assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence, and child abuse. However, Sanders’ girlfriend never showed up to court, and Sanders was only ever convicted of resisting and obstructing an officer. Sanders then skipped his pre sentencing hearing in December of 2021, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest two months later. He remained on the lamb until August 8th of this year, when he was arrested for the murder of Jacob Hills.
