Wouldn't Blacks be Poorer Today if They Hadn't Been Redlined 70 Years Ago?

The culturally dominant theory that white people stole vast sums from black people by redlining black neighborhoods in 1938-1967 ignores the history of 1968-2019, in which lending to black home buyers was strongly encouraged, with disastrous effects on black net worth.

The most obvious example is the 2002 White House Conference on Increasing Minority Homeownership on 10/15/2002. Think how much better off blacks would have been if they hadn’t been encouraged to buy homes by Bush’s pro-minority homeownership programs.

A more plausible assumptions is that white landlords were ripped off by renting to blacks in 1938-1967 due to the black tendency to drive down property values.
