The Justice Department is taking the final steps toward closing the politically charged investigation into the shooting death of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Mo., and clearing the white police officer involved of civil rights charges. It's worth taking a step back here and remembering that the conventional narrative about all this which will be retold in everything from university classrooms to meetings of Rand Paul supporters is that an "unarmed black man" was ruthlessly shot down by a racist white cop. And even Eric Holder's Justice Department can't find anything to pin on Darren Wilson.
Federal prosecutors have begun work on a legal memo recommending no civil rights charges against the officer, Darren Wilson, law enforcement officials said.
That would close the case in the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. An investigation by the F.B.I., which is complete, found no evidence to support the charges against the officer, the officials said.

Of course, if they can't get the individual, the federal government can shake down the entire system.
A broader civil rights investigation into allegations of discriminatory traffic stops and excessive force by the Ferguson Police Department remains open, however. That investigation could lead to significant changes at the department, which is overwhelmingly white despite serving a city that is mostly black.
Note the implication that this is inherently racist. Again, the problem here is that Ferguson hasn't quite given in to white flight. The federal government seems determined to chase out the white police force and white politicians and make sure the city is run by an entirely black police and political establishment.
Of course at that point whites will leave the city. And then the press will write sad stories about how Ferguson was destroyed by "white flight" because the evil palefaces didn't stick around.
