In recent days, the New York Times has been worked up over the White People Menace. For example:

That’s why the the man who made the most money in Hollywood, David Geffen and his $6 billion, is straight.

Oh, wait, Geffen has famously been not straight since his ill-fated fling with Cher in the 1970s.

Julia Roberts may not take the NYT’s premise that her career in Hollywood has been held back by her lack of straight white maleness as seriously as modern manners demand.

But Julia’s a trouper, so she gamely came up with this suitable anecdote:

We reviewed 503 of the most powerful people in American culture, government, education and business, and found that just 44 are minorities. Any list of the powerful is subjective, but the people here have an outsize influence on the nation’s rules and culture.

But what I was struck by was the New York Times’ statement by implication that Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio are “not white:”

So, Conquistador-Americans Ted Cruz, Robert Menendez, and Marco Rubio are “not white,” but self-identified Native American Elizabeth Warren is not not white.
