A disgruntled ex-medical worker who went on a deadly shooting rampage at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Friday afternoon has a history of sex abuse and resigned from the medical center after being accused of sexual harassment, sources said.
Henry Bello, 45, faced being fired from his job as pharmacy technician two years ago after he was accused of harassing a co-worker, according to sources. He was allowed to resign in lieu of being terminated, the sources said.
Bello was busted for sex abuse in August 2004 in the Bronx for groping a woman, according to police sources. He was arrested again in October 2009 for unlawful surveillance under a victim’s clothing.
He was also busted twice in 2003 — for fare-beating and burglary, sources said.
Armed with an assault rifle cloaked under a white lab coat, Bello stormed his former workplace Friday afternoon, opening fire on ex-colleagues on the hospital’s 16th floor.Emphases added above. He killed a doctor and injured six other hospital employees. NYPD officials said he was found dead on the 17th floor with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he failed to light himself on fire..
Bello worked as a licensed pharmacy technician in the family medicine unit. It’s unclear how long Bello worked at Bronx Lebanon, but state records show that a Henry Williams Bello was issued a medical permit to work there on July 1, 2014.
Police have said they were investigating the shooting as a workplace violence incident.
