While we at VDARE.com are inclined to be sympathetic to Southern politicians because of the massive MSM prejudice against them and their region's history that is not enough to justify tolerating Haley Barbour. Time has (we hope) destroyed his Presidential ambitions with What Haley Barbour Didn't Tell Fox News: He Lobbied For Mexico On "Amnesty"? by Michael Scherer Sunday February 13, 2011-02-14

The Embassy of Mexico decided to retain Barbour's services on August 15, 2001, to work on, among other things, legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for foreigners living illegally in the United States–what opponents of immigration reform call ”amnesty.” ”Haley Barbour and I will lead the BG&R team,” wrote Lanny Griffith, Barbour's former business partner…Barbour's firm arranged meetings and briefings with ”Senators, members of Congress and their staffs, as well as Executive Branch Officials in the White House, National Security Council, State Department, and Immigration & Naturalization Service.” Barbour's firm charged Mexico $35,000 a month, plus expenses.

This, it must be noted, was not work Barbour had to do. On his own admission, he had plenty of other foreign clients. But he wanted to make money out of Amnesty. Scherer administers the coup de grace with a quotation from a Barbour Hoover Institution presentation last year

I don't know where we would have been in Mississippi after Katrina if it hadn't been with the Spanish speakers that came in to help rebuild….And common sense tell us we're not going to take 10 or 12 or 14 million people and put them in jail and deport them. We're not gonna do it, and we need to quit – some people need to quit acting like we are and let's talk about real solutions.

(video above) which of course is rank open-borderism worthy of Mike Huckabee. Of course, this is not news to close students of VDARE.com. Last year Washington Watcher pointed out

Governor Haley Barbour is not running for reelection, but is considering running for president. According to Numbers USA, he has the worst immigration record in his public statements as any other Republican candidate.

VDARE.com dislikes applauding yet another MSM lynching of a Southern politician. There are some Southerners well qualified to be President. Haley Barbour is not one of them
