nathans2Nathan Sutherland (right) is a  licensed practical nurse,an occupational classification that requires about 10 less IQ points than Registered Nurse.

He was arrested after an incapacitated, brain-damaged woman in a long-term care facility where he worked was discovered to be pregnant. The woman is 29, but has been in a near-vegetative state since she was 3. DNA tests are said to have confirmed that he is the father, and thus he has been charged with rape and "vulnerable adult abuse".

Investigators arrested 36-year-old Nathan Sutherland on one count of sexual assault and one count of vulnerable adult abuse, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams said.

Williams said Sutherland, a licensed practical nurse, worked at the Hacienda HealthCare facility where the woman lived and had been providing care to her.

Sutherland was linked to the case through DNA, Sgt. Tommy Thompson said, CBS Phoenix affiliate KPHO-TV reported. Investigators determined on Tuesday that Sutherland's DNA matched that of the baby, according to Thompson.

Most of the time, a story of a  black man charged with a crime has the headline "Man Arrested". In this case the stories say "Nurse Arrested", without even noting that he's a male nurse.
