The killer of the "American Sniper" Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in a Texas court yesterday.
After over two hours of deliberation on Tuesday, a jury in Stephenville, Texas, found Eddie Ray Routh, 27, guilty of capital murder in the killings of legendary Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield. The jury, made up of 10 women and two men, unanimously rejected Routh’s insanity defense following the nearly two-week murder trial.

One of the more intriguing rumors about this case was that Routh's actions were not simply driven by PTSD but by a supposed conversion to Islam [Was Chris Kyle's killer a converted Muslim?by Michele Hickford, Allen West, February 2, 2015] .  Routh was a veteran, but never saw combat.  However, the evidence for this is circumstantial at best and Routh's other statements suggest that he was simply mentally ill.

News stories refer to the killer—in the headline—as an "ex-Marine" a thing they would never do if his status was "black", "Muslim" or gay."
