Re: Today's Letter: An Illinois Engineers Says Pray That Immigration Doesn't Spark Civil War

According to letter writer Bob Johnson:

"Tea parties that are determined to see pro-immigration candidates denied office are marginalized as right wing kooks by the mainstream media"

Johnson is half right. The mainstream media does marginalize the tea party crowd as conservative wing kooks.

Near as I can tell, however, the Tea Party is not up in arms over immigration. Rand Paul, for example, is the current darling of the tea party set. But immigration is among the last of the various "issues" he talks about.

In fact, in typical libertarian double talk, his website states: "Dr. Paul does not support amnesty. Those who come here should respect our laws.  Dr. Paul supports legal immigration and recognizes that the country has been enriched by those who seek freedom to make a life for themselves."

Paul may be better on immigration than RINO John McCain or any Democrat you can name but he's not the answer to my prayers.

On immigration, Paul is merely the best of a sorry lot that includes too many open borders advocates like Dick Armey.

I shouldn't judge Mr. Johnson harshly. I was also guilty of embracing the Tea Party movement. I even donated $100 to Paul's campaign.  But that is the last check he will get from me until he adopts a much more carnivorous stance on immigration, legal and illegal.

Brewer's previous letters about Tyson Foods, Lou Dobbs and Joe Guzzardi's "misguided" analysis of former Department of Homeland Secretary Michael Chertoff are here, here and here.
