Earlier: Boston Mayor Wu Hosts Christmas Where No Whites Are Allowed

An aide to Leftist Boston mayor Michelle Wu famously sent out an invitation to a “holiday” party for “electeds of color” to all 13 Boston city councillors, only to rescind the invitation of the 7 white councillors 15 minutes later.

Why has this attracted so much derisive comment?

First, like in the Ricci Supreme Court case, it looks particularly bad when you change the rules after they were announced.

Second, “electeds” is a novel and funny word. It’s reminiscent of inviting “retardeds of color.”

Third, while ethnic organizing has been going on for centuries in Boston politics, and nobody would bat an eye at a party for black politicians or Irish politicians, the “of color” category is fairly new and only exists as a vehicle of anti-whiteism. There is nothing unifying “electeds of color” other than they aren’t white.
