The Statue of Liberty should not be treating the flag that way
, and would know that if he or she had been raised in America. I can't tell if the Statue impersonator is an immigrant, or was raised in Manhattan, but neither group is raised to respect the flag.
As for the original statue, it really is a magnificent monument, but it was meant as a monument to Liberty, not immigration. As Kathy Shaidle has said repeatedly: "A bad poem on an old French statue is NOT an immigration policy. ..."
