The daughter of former Connecticut senator Joe Lieberman has moved to Israel, an immigrant aid group said Tuesday.
Nefesh B’Nefesh said Nesya Lieberman will live at Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu in northern Israel, where she’ll hone her Hebrew before volunteering for a year of national service.
Lieberman, who has visited Israel numerous times, said she had planned to move to the country for a while.
“I’ve wanted to make aliyah ever since my 8th grade school trip, and am overjoyed to have finally accomplished that goal,” she said. “Jews have been praying for a return to Israel for millennia, and I’m fortunate enough to live in a time when such a return is possible. Why would I live anywhere else? Israel is my home, and I can’t wait to see what my future here will bring.”
Nesya’s grandfather, Joe Lieberman, served as a US senator for Connecticut from 1989 to 2013 and was one of the most prominent Jewish members of Congress. He was also Al Gore’s running mate for the Democratic Party in the 2000 presidential elections.
