From the New York Times news section:

Women Report Worse Side Effects After a Covid Vaccine

Men and women tend to respond differently to many kinds of vaccines. That’s probably because of a mix of factors, including hormones, genes and the dosing of the shots.

C.D.C. researchers analyzed safety data from 13.7 million Covid-19 vaccinations, finding 79.1 percent of reported side effects came from women, though only 61.2 percent of the vaccines had been administered to women.

I presume that women got almost 5/8ths of the vaccinations during the first month because they are quite likely to be either very old or health care workers. Of course, if the imbalance were reversed and men were getting more vaccinations, the way that whites are getting more vaccinations, this would be giant headline news about sexism and male privilege.

The article offers a lot of interesting speculations on biological differences between men’s and women’s immune systems, although this could just be men being more stoic about complaining.
