Earlier: Has There Ever Been a Realistic Movie About White Flight?

Have there been any movies, TV shows, or novels sympathetically depicting White Flight from the big cities from the point of view of the white victims of black criminals? Bruce Norton’s play “Clybourne Park”? Jeffrey Eugenides’ novel “Middlesex”?

Here’s a scene from Death Wish in 1974:

Paul Schrader describes his original screenplay for Taxi Driver (1976):

In fact, in the draft of the script that I sold, at the end all the people [Travis Bickle] kills are black. Marty and the Phillipses and everyone said, no, we just can’t do this, it’s an incitement to riot; but it was true to the character.

Nobody ever seems to worry much about incitement to riot among blacks, which might be one reason we have so many black riots.
