Presumably, the genes for the Default Dog’s appearance—yellow-brown relatively short coat, pointed snout, upright ears—are dominant, while most breeds’ genes for looks are more recessive.
We seem to see something similar in people who are part white and part Australian Aborigine: the white appearance is more dominant.
Are there other examples of dominant and recessive genes in human looks?
