On Saturday I posted Valiant Black Academic Roger House Again Explicates Immigration’s Harm To Blacks, Congressional Black Caucus’s  Betrayal. Lacks Political Solution. This dealt with Professor Roger House’s latest article: Biden and Congress Must Address the Border and Black Labor’s ‘Bread-and-Butter’ Issues, The Messenger, January 22, 2024.

Perhaps I was too charmed by Professor House’s acidic denunciation of the CBP

…the Congressional Black Caucus is a professional class with interests that may differ from those of its base.

and his grasp of the academic dispute about the impact of immigration on wage levels.

Professor House has now responded to my posting notification:

Dear Patrick,

Thank you for the second shout out regarding the recent article in The Messenger. Also, I would like to call your attention to a few ideas suggested about midway in the commentary. While not the strongest responses to the border crisis, they do go beyond what most Democrats are willing to consider and your readers may be interested in knowing about them [VDARE emphasis]

"I don’t presume to be an expert on immigration policies, but there seem to be commonsense alternatives to which the administration and Democrats appear tone deaf. These include tightening eligibility for asylum; rejecting migrants who pass through safe countries to reach the border; reducing economic pressure on countries of origin such as Venezuela and Cuba; shifting priorities from family sponsorship to real business need; rejecting migrants who endanger children to gain access at the border; expanding the number of border police; mandating E-verify for hires, with fines for violations; and reducing the H-1B visa program."

Depending on how Congress deals with border policy, I may write a third follow up story. I'm keeping fingers crossed that they do not provide work permits for the tens of thousands in sanctuary cities in return for tougher border enforcement. It would be a slap in the face of those American workers that compete in the same occupations... but you never know?

Roger House is accepting significant professional and personal risks in taking this stance. Please applaud him: email [email protected].
