A Zinger from CIS!...At last.

We at VDARE.com have amused ourselves over the years by teasing the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) for its habit of triangulation  - trying to ingratiate itself with the MSM by contrasting itself with reprehensible extremists amongst Immigration Reform Patriots, such as us. This enables us to us to somewhat restrain our impatience with the CIS unwillingness to provide leadership on issues such as Moratorium or Birthright Citizenship which would disrupt cozy inside-the-beltway relationships. Also with the utter cowardice it has shown on issues which are likely to be big problems in the future, like Hate Speech and the Kagan nomination. (Of course, we freely acknowledge CIS is incomparably more useful than the financial Black Hole of the Reform movement, FAIR).

So it is only right that when the CIS does come up with a zinger, we acknowledge it. Such a case is ICE Chief Morton to Field: See No Illegal Aliens By Jessica Vaughan, CIS August 19, 2010

 Vaughan notes

ICE's misleadingly-named Office of State and Local Cooperation (OSLC) has announced the next step in the Obama administration's efforts to drastically diminish the scope of immigration law enforcement. According to a draft policy document now being circulated among a limited group of stakeholders, ICE chief John Morton intends to prohibit not only his officers, but also local officers with 287(g) immigration authority, from busting illegal aliens who are discovered as a result of traffic violations.

"Never mind that local patrol officers around the country routinely come across unlicensed illegal alien drivers in unsafe and/or uninsured vehicles, sometimes transporting vanloads of smuggled and illegally employed aliens with stolen identities "

(287g is a clause in the 1996 Immigration Act which enables local Police departments to start deportation processes for illegal aliens convicted of other crimes. For some time it has been clear the Obama crowd hates this.) Traffic violations are of course a fruitful source of Police/Illegal Immigrant interaction

She goes on

"According to the draft document's cover e-mail from Ann Yom Steel, a political appointee whose mission seems to be to harass and discourage local agencies who want to help ICE and who want ICE to help them, the agency is responding to the "many concerns [of immigration law enforcement critics] related to immigration detainers -  that they could open the window for pretextual, minor criminal charges." In other words, ICE believes the ethnic advocacy groups who accuse local cops and sheriffs of abusing their authority by trumping up traffic charges on innocent illegal aliens in order to have them deported. Therefore, all illegal aliens who violate traffic laws will get a free pass from ICE!"

Ann Yom Steel is a "Korean-American". These Asian women can be a problem. Like Grace Chung Becker who served as co-executioner in the Jeremiah Munsen/Jena 6 outrage they may marry white men, but that seems not to deter them from anti-majority vendettas. Logical enough, I suppose: their children can opt to join the Majority/Minority ruling class.

Congratulate Jessica Vaughan on fine work. Complain to Ann Yom Steel.
