Subject: Kansas City Star's Mary Sanchez and recent school shooting

Dear Mr. Brimelow:

Today, the always-annoying Mary Sanchez writes about gun control in her column concerning the recent tragic school shooting.

“Every last one of the 20 precious souls who died Friday deserves a more pertinent and lasting memorial than the shock of a nation reeling.

They deserve deep, contemplative thought and action. They deserve changes in how we manage the right to own weaponry in America.”

Remember the children, and address what ails our nation, December 15, 2012

I knew that was coming, of course, but gun control is not the core issue here as I see it.

Alienation is. These things DO NOT HAPPEN in Switzerland, nor do they happen in Israel. These are very different polities, of course, but they are both blood-and-soil nations, and both Swiss and Israelis know who they are. They know what side they are on.

This particular tragedy does not involve immigration, per se. It involves the atomization and disconnectedness of a society where "diversity" and "multiculturalism" and a refusal to deal with people with destructive proclivities because the authorities are too intimidated by our litigious and corrosive self appointed "civil rights" outfits to take appropriate and swift action against people who present a plausible threat to public safety.

These same failures of the national will drive our refusal to deal with immigration, most especially illegal immigration, and many other failures.

I hope that in your wisdom you can provide some guidance to those of us who are stuck with this constant dribble of twaddle in our local and other media. The Kansas City Star has never been known for excellence in anything besides providing a suitable flooring for the cages of macaws and mynah birds, but the sheer predictability and total lack of innovation in their output grates on one's nerves.

Thanks for taking the time to write, but statements like this make your thoughts a little difficult to take seriously:

The Kansas City Star has never been known for excellence in anything besides providing a suitable flooring for the cages of macaws and mynah birds,...

The Star may not tell you the news you want to hear; but it has long, storied history of excellence in journalism, including ethical considerations and being factual. The same could not be said for VDARE.

Simply expressing the horror a nation at these deaths and beginning to ask pertinent questions about how mental health, school safety and yes, the Second Amendment is managed in society is hardly a radical position.

James Fulford writes: Ms. Sanchez is one of the Mainstream Media people who, as Kathy Shaidle puts it, think of themselves as “Your Moral And Intellectual Superiors”—but her assertion of  Star’s unblemished record of “ethical considerations and being factual”,  is questionable.

A search of our own site brings up these two stories, along with a lot of immigration enthusiasm and credulous SPLC-quoting:

A search of the Media Research Center and Catholic League sites brings up more and worse.
