There’s a saying about national character that

Heaven is where the police are British, the cooks are French, the mechanics German, the lovers Italian and it’s all organized by the Swiss.

Hell is where the chefs are British, the mechanics French, the lover’s Swiss, the police German and it’s all organized by the Italians.

My brother used to have a poster saying this and it was popular among the backpacking Europe college students. (It seems quaint now, as the character of the nations have changed. The Bobbies are arresting people for thought crimes on the one hand, while being unable to control the invading hordes on the other.)

So, I was mildly shocked that Tucker Carlson started his latest video [Tucker on X (Ep. 30) | Crimes on the southern border]by saying “Nations are defined by the people who live in them.” He goes on to compare Austria and Zimbabwe and say that they are not the same because “their populations are different.” Maybe Tucker isn’t a race realist, but he’s flirting with the line there.

Full video is 22 minutes, but well worth it.
