Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) spoke at Colorado State University-Pueblo last Monday night. Roughly 25 people gathered in front of the school to protest Tancredo`s presence on campus.
The signs said "End ethnic cleansing" and "Don`t fence us out Tom." I don`t think anyone really understood the message that was being sent, primarily because there didn`t appear to be one, but a few protestors seemed to resent Tancredo`s position on immigration.
Jose Esteban Ortega, a member of La Gente por La Raza, said he attended to "stand up for the people who can`t stand up for themselves."
That would mean he and Congressman Tancredo have a lot in common. ["Tancredo talk draws protests," by Amy Matthew The Pueblo Chieftain, March 8, 2005]
