When I was lugging my backpack through Salzburg and Innsbruck in 1980, Austrians on the street would point hopefully to the
"Sailer" I'd written on my backpack with a Marx-a-Lot. I was sorry to have to disappoint them by admitting that I wasn't closely related to Austria's national hero Toni Sailer, winner of three Alpine skiing gold medals at the 1956 Winter Olympics, nor was I even a very stylish skier.
Toni Sailer, RIP.
