If You Build It They Will Come: New York’s Homeless Shelter Complex Is A Migrant Magnet

We had a bus come through once in the morning headed south, and once in the evening headed north. We checked it both ways for illegal aliens. It’s where our station made most of its arrests. I had been out in the field when there was a call out from our dispatch about the local police wanting assistance at the truck stop where the bus we checked was. I had not been assigned to transportation check that evening, but the Agent who had been on “trans check” (short for Transportation Check, nothing to do with ”Crossing The Border While Transgender”) was already there. I walked into the convenience store and spotted that Agent talking to an elderly woman. He saw me coming up and the moment I got there said, “You talk to her” and left. I went up to have a word to see what the matter was and that’s when the smell hit me, a combination of unwashed body odor along with some urine. It took two sentences to figure out this was a mentally disturbed homeless person, not an illegal alien.

The convenience store clerk at the truck stop wanted the homeless lady gone. That was understandable. The homeless lady had decided to camp there for the night. The police didn’t know what to do with her and had called us hoping we would somehow take the problem off their hands. Between the cop and ourselves, we managed to convince her to go outside. However, she had no money and nowhere to go. She started begging random truck drivers for a ride while the cop followed her. Someone mentioned that the town two bus stops from us had a homeless shelter, but it cost $20 for the bus ticket. One of the truck drivers said, “I’ve got $10!” With that, the cop produced a 10 of his own and the problem was solved for us.

It was a lesson in “Build it and they will come.” The small town where I was didn’t have a homeless problem because there was no place to put them.

So, I read this interesting article about how the homeless activists created the migrant crisis in New York. They built it and so they keep coming.

Does New York Have to ‘House the World’?

The city’s migrant crisis was really created by homelessness activists.

Amusingly, NYC Mayor Eric Adams is down in Mexico pleading for illegal aliens to avoid New York. Don’t these idiot migrants know they are supposed to go disrupt red states? Illinois Governor Pritzker is upset by the amount of cultural enrichment he is receiving. And finally, the virtue signaling, sanctimonious, holier-than-thou Denver Mayor is asking for the infiltrators to go elsewhere.

In the meantime, if you wish to make a difference, please donate to VDare. However, if you also want to see liberal mayors squirm, Texas is asking for donations to help send the illegals elsewhere. Feel free to help out a liberal.

P.S. Years after the first incident I described, in a different town, we got a call from the local police about panhandlers. They turned out to be Roma Gypsies who traveled from one town to another begging (sometimes shoplifting and ATM skimming too). The family of Gypsies was camped out at a four-way stop sign in a strip mall and they were slowing down traffic as motorists gawked at them. We had talked to them, but the Gypsies had claimed political asylum and were awaiting court dates, so, we couldn’t pick them up. I can remember one of the clerks from a store (possibly the Barnes and Noble) walking across the parking lot to them. She handed one of the gypsy women (who was seated in the grass next to the stop sign) some money and said something to her that I could not hear.

The young American woman then made to walk back to her job, but before she did she glanced at me. She gave me a look of such perfect contentedness, such haughty smugness as she turned to walk away, I remember thinking, “There is no such thing as altruism.” I wondered if she realized that she was helping out petty crooks who were also into shoplifting and ATM skimming among other crimes.
