News reports on Thursday suggested that the mayor of Baltimore, currently implicated in the Children’s Book Scandal, had skipped town and was holed up from the law or perhaps was making a run for the border, Thelma and Louise-style. Unfortunately, her lawyer says, she’s just at home and blotto:

Her personal attorney, Steve Silverman, said Friday that a decision won’t come until at least next Tuesday. “We are just trying to get to a level of physical and mental stability so she can make material decisions about what she wants to do next,“ Silverman said. … Silverman said Mayor Pugh, “is not able to think clearly and not physically up to the task to make major decisions such as this.

Do women ever take off in the White Bronco like O.J.? Or is dreaming up a get-away plan just a guy thing? For example, Thelma and Louise was written by a woman, but directed by a man, Ridley Scott. I wouldn’t be surprised if at the bottom of a desk drawer, Sir Ridley, who is very good at planning, has a 4×6 card covered with detailed notes Just In Case.

That raises another question: can anybody make an escape Shawshank Redemption-style anymore? Or will we soon live in a world where even beach bum bars in Guatelombia will be linked into facial recognition databases?
