Well, it seems that you were right and I was very mistaken. Mr. Bush is not only useless on immigration but downright dangerous. The proposed amnesty legislation amounts to a de facto surrender of the southwest to Mexico.
I just got off the phone with a White House comment operator after expressing my outright disgust with the legislation—"if the President continues with this, a lot of conservatives are going to stay home and that will cost him a lot more than the slight increase in Hispanic voters he thinks this will get him."
The operator was NOT happy when I said that. (I guess they staff these lines with the party faithful.)
Anyway, the good news is that it took me about 10 tries to get through when I usually get through on the first try.
That means that thousands of people across the country are calling in and my guess is that most of them are calling to give Bush hell for this insanity.
We don't need a party that will win, just one that will get enough conservative votes to give the GOP a clear ultimatum: Restrict immigration or lose the White House, period.
