One of the things which never ceases to amaze me about our dysfunctional immigration system is how flagrantly people-both Americans and aliens-publicize their violations. A case in point is this recent Craigslist posting [Archive.is link] requesting a sponsor for someone involved in a "genuine" love match with an American.

I'm a 33 year old teacher and tutor who came to NYC from France (Paris) a few months ago. I am currently looking for someone who'd be willing to cosponsor me for my Green Card application.

We need to find a serious and good-willed person as quickly as possible to be my sponsor, and fill and sign the Affidavit of support so I may adjust my status before the beginning of October, at which point I would otherwise have to go back to Europe. We are willing to pay you $500 for that service. If you want to look at the information you'd have to provide beforehand, the immigration form (I-485) can be downloaded here https://www.uscis.gov/i-485  (official immigration website).

Information about the Affidavit of support here: https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-processes-and-procedures/affidavit-support

I'm currently tutoring and doing gigs without a SSN but am not supposed to. I will never ask for any money from you as my sponsor, but the cosponsoring is a mandatory administrative requirement just as the presence of a witness at our marriage (our union is genuine and we have friends so that wasn't a problem but we still had to have one).

If you check the second and third links below, you would not be legally required to cover any emergency or living costs, only a small number of "means-tested benefits" - food stamps, etc., which I don't plan to use as I already make money.

You can find several of these, in addition to the routine postings by companies looking to exploit the fraud-ridden investor visa and guest-worker scams, on Craigslist which have never been flagged.
