Last week, after the verdicts in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, I was jubilant. This, I said, referring to Kenosha, Wisconsin, this was small-town America at its best. The old values still stand, I said; yes, the old procedures still work; and yes, justice can still be found in places like Kenosha.

Alas, my heart had been too soon made glad. Yes, the forces of light had prevailed against the Dark Powers there in that one small battle. This week, however, as we were still savoring our triumph, Satan struck back—not once, but twice.

On Tuesday November 23 verdicts were delivered in the Charlottesville trial. This is a civil trial launched by a coalition of rich and powerful Progressive lobbies against organizers of the 2017 Unite the Right rally. The jury was hung on a few of the charges, but found for the plaintiffs on most, with massive damages both against those organizers personally and against their organizations.

Then on Wednesday November 24 we got verdicts in the Arbery trial in Brunswick, Georgia: twenty-seven of them, nine counts against each of the three defendants. All but four of the twenty-seven verdicts were "guilty."

And those calamities followed on the Sunday November 21 attack by a crazy white-hating black criminal on a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Six paraders were killed, all of them white, ages from eight to 81 [Waukesha holiday parade victims include a child, a bank teller and Dancing Grannies, prosecutor says, Washington Post, November 23, 2021].

After Kyle Rittenhouse was found to have acted in self-defense during the riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, there was some hope that the three defendants in the Arbery case might be acquitted. There are similarities: Mr. Rittenhouse shot the first man, Joseph Rosenbaum, when he lunged and tried to take away Mr. Rittenhouse’s rifle.

The shaky, incomplete video of Arbery’s death shows something similar. Travis McMichael does not fire until Arbery appears to run right into him and tries to take away his shotgun. The greatest difference, of course, is what led up to the moment when Rosenbaum and Arbery each closed on armed men and tried to wrestle away their weapons. An almost identical three-second encounter led to an acquittal in one case and life in prison for the other.

Scott Greer, popular on Twitter and Telegram, reflected the dismay of many when he wrote:

Both the Arbery and Rittenhouse trials send a clear message to white Americans that they can’t defend themselves without grave consequences. Yes, Kyle got off, but it took millions of dollars and a hell of a lot of trouble to do so.

Earlier, by Peter Brimelow: Manafort, Marlborough, And Robert E. Lee: Criminalizing Policy/ Personnel, Differences—U.S. Politics Regressing To The Primitive

At VDARE.com Editor Peter Brimelow’s urging, I recently read Winston Churchill’s biography of his great ancestor John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough. One of the great captains of history, Marlborough is not well known in the Anglosphere today. Some might know of him because of a frivolous film, The Favorite, that reduced extraordinary figures like Queen Anne and Sarah Churchill into sexually depraved, petty gossips [The Favorite: From Queen Anne to Sarah Churchill, does the film do justice to the real women it portrays?, FirstPost, March 6, 2019]. The true story is, as usual, far better than what today’s degenerate culture can give us.

Still, anonymity or being turned into a character in a piece of smut might be a better fate than outright demonization. And that’s where Winston Churchill is going as the United Kingdom continues frantically to pile up its own funeral pyre. The sacrifices the British made to save their Empire in World War II were, in retrospect, pointless at best and counter-productive at worst. The Empire, Churchill’s one consistent love in his long political career, is gone, and “English liberty” can only be considered as a sick joke [Once Great Britain Under Occupation, by Gregory Hood, American Renaissance, December 1, 2017]. Churchill himself seems doomed to go down as just another racist white male. One wonders if he would have made the same choices if he could see what he was unleashing on his country and Empire.

But literature lives on, whether a civilization or people rises or falls. And whatever else one may say about Winston Spencer Churchill, the man could write. I strongly urge everyone to read this book as much to learn about politics as history.

Ann Coulter’s column This Thanksgiving, Joy-Ann Reid Has Much To Be Thankful For isn’t really about Thanksgiving, it’s about ingratitude. Ms. Reid is the daughter of African and Guyanese immigrants, born and raised in the United States, but ungrateful to it, and is always going on about the American slaves from whom she is not descended.

VDARE.com covered this in an earlier article by me:  The Thanksgiving Of A Grateful Nation—And The Ingratitude Of A Few.

Those ungrateful people were mostly Indians, not happy about living in a white society—rather than, I suppose, the brutal savagery that prevailed before 1492.

Speaking of 1492, the Women’s March, which contains, as far as I know, very few American Indian women (it’s a Coalition Of The Fringes of Leftist blacks, Palestinians, and Jews, arguing with each other, with regular American women, if any, disinclined to argue for themselves as usual), felt obliged to issue this Tweet:

Why such a sourpuss, Joy-Ann? On the whole, life and MSNBC are treating you pretty well. And yet, over the last 10 years, you have complained pretty much nonstop about how badly you, and “people who look like [you],” are treated in America.

I will take on faith, Joy-Ann, that your life up to age 16—spent in the racist hellscape that was 1980s Denver, Colorado—was practically a maelstrom of cross burnings, Night Riders and segregated water fountains.

Let’s focus on the recent past.

Consider:

  • You were admitted to Harvard with SAT scores that would have gotten an Asian kid disowned by his parents.
  • You manage to keep your show at MSNBC with ratings that would get a white person canceled.
  • People try harder to laugh at your excruciating jokes than they would for a male of any race.
  • Plus, I have it on good authority that no one at MSNBC has pestered you about touching your hair.
