It looks very much as though the biggest casualty from Hurricane Katrina is going to be race relations. The T.V. footage and photographs carried by the MSM has established in the mind of observers world-wide the fact that the relapse into savagery in New Orleans was an African-American phenomenon. Not that the MSM care to say this in print of course: but their cowardice merely demonstrates again the value of some courageous and clear thinking blogs. The Logical Meme
excoriates an MSM attempt to excuse what has happened:
If the city of Detroit or Chicago were flooded, there would be the type of looting, raping, violence and savagery we are currently witnessing in New Orleans. If the city of La Jolla or Burlington were flooded, we would not.
At View from the Right
, the implacably tough-minded Lawrence Auster sets the wider perspective:
...the fact remains that the non-criminal part of the black population is incapable of getting control of black savagery and incapable of running a civilized society. When we remember that white society is inevitably going to be blamed for the incompetence of New Orlean’s black-run government and the general mayhem...we are obligated to say frankly that the racial deficit in civilizational abilities so dramatically on display in New Orleans is not the fault of whites, and cannot be changed by whites.
- for whom this topic is home turf - republishes its prescient essay
on the Los Angeles 1992 riot
Blacks live in a society in which all evils can be blamed on other people. No matter how barbaric their behavior, they can count on whites to offer excuses and foot the bill.AR
also supplies an extrordinanarily honest essay - which must have been painful to write - published in a Jamaican newspaper by a Black columnist: The dark side of black people -Leighton Levy The Jamaica Star Online September 2cnd 2005
I am proud to be a black man. There are times however, when I wish that certain people and I did not share that trait... The pictures I have been seeing are of people - black people - stealing shoes, diapers, and television sets. Not food and definitely not water...I am beginning to believe that black people, no matter where in the world they are, are cursed with a genetic predisposition to steal, murder, and create mayhem...Just once, I would like for us blacks to take the high road in situations like this, where instead of showing our darkest side, we put our best foot forward.
Doubtful if we will be seeing Leighton Levy appearing in an American newspaper any time soon!
