Then you either have it bookmarked, or you're subscribing via RSS. The front page of the site is entirely taken up by Peter Brimelow's appeal for funds, which the Lord knows we need. So let me point out this article on the Wall Street Journal's website, saying that newspapers that give away all their content free are sinking.

Of course this article is appearing free on the Opinionjournal website of the Wall Street Journal, which is the most successful web subscription newspaper around, partly because you can tell the IRS that your subscription is necessary for your business, which is harder to do with TimesSelect.

The OpinionJournal site is the Editorial Board's way of thrusting their opinions on the whole public, not just the subscribers, and frequently a particularly obvious item of immigration enthusiast journalism which appears as subscriber content will appear the next day for free.

Newspaper critic A. J. Liebling suggested in the 1950's that to avoid having newspapers controlled entirely by plutocrats, reflecting the opinions of their wealthy Republican owners, some institutions might consider endowing a newspaper, the way universities are endowed.

One of his ideas, (he was a Democrat) was that a labor union might endow such a paper. Since the 1950's the newspaper game has changed, so that while some of the same plutocrats control the papers, they've given editorial control to the liberal Democrats who work for them.

And as far as the immigration issue is concerned, wealthy owners and liberal employees have the same idea about immigration. As Peter Brimelow wrote in 1999

”IN AMERICA, WE have a two-party system," a Republican congressional staffer is supposed to have told a visiting group of Russian legislators some years ago.

"There is the stupid party. And there is the evil party. I am proud to be a member of the stupid party."

He added: "Periodically, the two parties get together and do something that is both stupid and evil. This is called–bipartisanship."

The same applies to the Mainstream Media—owners and journalists alike are committed to more immigration, which means that VDARE.com is performing a service that you don't get elsewhere. So if you haven't already decided to help with our endowment, you can read Peter's appeal. If you have decided...
