Tonight (September 20) is the Vigil of St. Matthew, preparatory to his Feast Day tomorrow. Matthew, one of Jesus' Apostles and author of one of the gospels, had the interesting distinction of being a tax collector, making him highly relevant to today's Americans. He's the Patron Saint of tax collectors and also, weirdly, of actors.

Oh, and Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset.

VDARE.com does not advocate a War On Rosh Hashanah to counter the War On Christmas. But it has now become a multicultural must to step on Christmas by never mentioning it except in connection with other “holidays”, notably Hanukkah, aptly described by American Heritage's Frederic Schwarz (December 2000) as the “Jewish Kwanzaa”. Somehow, however, the MSM neglects to provide the nearest Saint's Day in the Christian calendar to each year's Rosh HashanahYom Kippur and Passover—there are a lot of saints!—so it has become a VDARE.com service (as so often) to fill the gap.

The War On Christmas has been through ten phases since the mid-1990s by my count, ending with last year's Trump Trauma. Judging by the Left's continuing totalitarian tantrum, we can expect a real fight this year.

Still, unlike the unpleasant War On Christmas perpetrators, VDARE.com does wish everyone a Happy—sincerely.
