12/10/09 - A Midwest Reader Says CNN Already Rues The Day Lou Dobbs Left

From: Wanda Gomez-Berger (e-mail her)

In its November editorial, the New York Times hit a new low in its ceaseless promotion for open borders. [Immigrants, Criminalized, Editorial, New York Times, November 26, 2009]

The column conflated illegal aliens with legal residents and with citizens of Hispanic descent; it repeated the fallacious "12 million illegal immigrants," a number which has  become a mainstream media constant like the mathematical constant pi, despite continued high alien inflows; it transformed illegal aliens into "Americans in waiting," and it turned the notion of innocence on its head while pointing fingers at American citizens as abusers and aliens as victims.

If we heed the NYT and deem illegal immigration a "noble effort", we can expect 100 million queuing up at our southern border and a grinding of anchor chains as fleets from a hundred ports set sail.

It's irresponsible of the Times to promote policies that have such dire consequences.

Gomez-Berger, a long-standing advocate of population stabilization, describes herself as "a thorn in the side of those who misapply hagiography to illegal aliens".  Her previous letters about Michelle Malkin, the connection between Morris Dees and the Habitat for Humanity and California Congressman Tom McClintock are here, here and here.
