See, earlier, by Lance Welton: Are Women Destroying Academia? Probably

When I attended Johns Hopkins University almost 50 years ago, most of the students were men. Enrollment at the medical school was lopsidedly male, too. Today, undergraduate enrollment is 52.2 percent women, 47.6 percent men. The school also “boasts excellent racial diversity,” with whites at 38.2 percent, Asians at 23.4, and blacks around 6 [Johns Hopkins Student Population Stats, Collegefactual.com]. The diversity racket depends on leveraging white guilt about race, of course. See Diversity and Inclusion, 2017, Johns Hopkins Medicine Office of Diversity and Inclusion, which feature a cover photo of a Gambian female student in a hijab.

Likewise with the rise of women doctors. I believe Lance Welton’s conclusions about the damaging influence of women in the academe, which aroused a predictable furor, apply to the medical profession. Welton also reported that British medical schools admitted women in considerable numbers during World War I, but later decided it was a mistake and cut back. We should be so lucky.

Historically, a number of exceptional women such as Helen Taussig (right, not wearing hijab) the pioneering pediatric cardiologist, have distinguished themselves in medical careers, but social conventions supported a predominantly male medical profession. Not anymore. In 2017, more 60 percent of physicians under 35 years old were female, and the percentage appears likely to increase in the future [The healthcare future is female, by Megan Johnson, AetnaHealth.com, February 14, 2018].

Is this transformation a good thing? My own observations through 35 years of medical practice suggest that everyone will suffer—but no-one will be allowed to notice in medicine’s Brave New World.

I had the pleasure of working with many smart and capable women. But their temperamental and physical limitations provided a constant, subtle undertow of problems: They are 1) indecisive 2) lack professional focus; and 3) get pregnant and 4) burn out more easily than men. None of that bodes well for patients if the majority of doctors are women—or for the women doctors themselves.

Sunday’s front page of the StarTribune newspaper published from Minneapolis/St. Paul included a story about “new Americans” being taught how to navigate Minnesota’s culture as well as the cold and snow — so different from Rwanda and Burundi! The accompanying photo showed newcomers learning the fine points of shoveling snow at an eight-week class presented by the International Institute of Minnesot...

Earlier, by Pat Buchanan: Dump Duterte (For Starters) And The Rest Of The “Entangling Alliances”

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has just given us notice he will be terminating the Visiting Forces Agreement that governs U.S. military personnel in the islands.

His notification starts the clock running on a six-month deadline. If no new agreement is negotiated, the VFA is dissolved.

What triggered the decision?

Buy Second City Confidential: The Black Experience in Chicago by Paul Kersey and James Kirkpatrick What happens when a black judge in Chicago, who happens to be the chief judge of Cook County, lies about the consequences of reducing or eliminating monetary bail for many defendants (which he lamented in 2017 disproportionately impacts black and brown criminals)? At long last, Rashaun Weaver has been arrested for the murder of Barnard College student Tessa Majors back on December 11 2019. Remember, the police had Weaver in custody but let him go [14-Year-Old Is Released Without Charges in Tessa Majors Case, by Edgar Sandoval, New York Times, December 26, 2019]. A second suspect, Zyairr Davis, 13, had already been charged—but in Family Court [Judge sets murder trial date for teen boy in Tessa Majors stabbing death, by Anthony M. DeStefano, Newsday, January 2, 2020]. A third suspect, also questioned but also released, is still free. This agonizing pace is the direct result of the race-whipped pro-crime policies of New York City Mayor Bill DiBlasio, which I predict may yet succeed in denying Majors justice. And it’s the tip of the iceberg: soon it will not be possible to disguise that we’re headed back to the high-crime era of 1980s.

In Majors’ case, the New York City Police Department also did its part. Tellingly, as with the Knoxville Horror, depolicing had let Davis’ gang of muggers run amok in the area until they murdered her.

And, as the New York Post reported, Weaver

was on the lam for more than two weeks before cops nabbed him in the Bronx on Thursday. ... Investigators believe he may have stayed underground until his finger healed

[Suspect may have killed Tessa Majors because she bit his finger: police sources, by Tina Moore, Khristina Narizhnaya and Laura Italiano, December 27, 2019].

But, of course, the NYPD has not arrested the accomplices who harbored him while he healed and charged them as accessories.

One understandable reason for law enforcement caution:  the killers’ fans are politicizing the case, aiming to pull a new Central Park Five Hoax. They’ve already defamed the main detective [Detective involved in Barnard student Tessa Majors case faces allegations he falsified evidence in other cases, by Alec Snyder, CNN, December 23, 2019], and baselessly asserted that Davis’ confession was coerced because detectives “badgered” him [Lawyer Casts Doubt on Boy’s Statements About Murder of Barnard Student, by Jan Ransom, The New York Times, December 17, 2019].

p>See also Do You Know All Coronavirus Victims Appear To Be Chinese? Thought Not! and  STILL No Non-Chinese Deaths From Coronavirus, But The WASHINGTON POST Wants You To Rat Out Your Neighbors Anyway

The story so far: There is still no confirmed case of the Coronavirus killing anyone other than ethnic East Asians. The Drudge Report today (February 15) features FRANCE REPORTS FIRST DEATH OUTSIDE ASIA... but the underlying story, from Bloomberg via Yahoo Finance, says the victim was an “80-year-old Chinese tourist.” Drudge, of course, is just scaring up clicks. But why does the rest of the Main Stream Media, and the medical Establishment, want to suppress a possibility that could relieve fears around the world: that the Coronavirus disproportionately impacts, and perhaps only kills, East Asians?

Now read on.

Taking the exact opposite tack to me, CNN Medical Talking Head Dr. Sanjay Gupta [Tweet him] recently asserted that Corona “doesn’t discriminate based on race. Why do we?”

Gupta put this most Woke of questions to CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield [Tweet him] in response to the Trump Administration’s having decided to, in Redfield’s words  “temporarily suspend travel into the United States from individuals who were not Americans or permanent residents who had been in the hot zone in the last 14 days.” ['It's Coming': CDC Director Warns Coronavirus To Become Widespread Throughout United States, 'Probably Beyond 2020', By Tyler Durden, Zero Hedge, February 14, 2020].

Now, obviously, it’s paranoid nonsense to claim that this Trump policy is discriminating based on “race.” Chinese-Canadians will have no problem entering the U.S. so long as they haven’t been in the “hot zone” in the last two weeks. In contrast, white British people who have been in the “hot zone “in the last fortnight, will be denied access to the U.S.

Earlier, by Pat Buchanan: An Establishment in Panic Over Biden Fall, Bernie Rise

A specter is haunting the Democratic establishment—the specter of Bernie Sanders. The new presidential frontrunner terrifies party elites, who would much rather have a “moderate” nominee. Mike Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, and Joe Biden all hope they’ll emerge as that “moderate” option. But the only “moderate” aspect about them is their supposed opposition to “socialism.” All support the Left’s extreme immigration agenda enthusiast agenda and all will impose Open Borders on America.

Sanders's support for Open Borders is obvious. As I reported last week:

He wants to decriminalize illegal immigration, abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol, impose a moratorium on deportations, provide healthcare to illegal aliens, “dismantle” detention facilities, amnesty all illegals, dramatically increase America’s refugee intake  by welcoming “climate refugees,” and scrap Trump’s travel ban and other immigration restrictions.

But the other Democrats “moderates” are only slightly less radical.

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg is currently the strongest threat to Sanders. He appears to have narrowly won the Iowa Caucus, although losing the popular vote, and he came in a close second in New Hampshire.  He drew in the second-highest fundraising numbers for the fourth quarter of 2019; only Sanders raised more money [Here's how much each presidential candidate raised in the fourth quarter, by Grace Segers, CBS News, January 3, 2020]. But he lags in the national polls at fifth place, average. [RealClearPolitics, February 14, 2020]

Buttigieg claims to represent the heartland, but his immigration plan promises to ravage Middle America. He believes illegal immigration should be decriminalized and government should provide healthcare to illegal aliens [Pete Buttigieg vows to expand government healthcare to illegal immigrants, by Kimberly Leonard, Washington Examiner, June 22, 2019]. His formal immigration plan released in December confirmed his Open Borders commitment. He promised to Amnesty all illegal immigrants in his first 100 days of office; if Congress doesn’t pass Amnesty by that time, he will try to implement it via Executive Action. He would reduce immigrant detention facilities, deportations, and border security in general. He wants to create a “Community Renewal Visa” to be given to foreigners who move to economically depressed towns and promise to stay there and “renew” their adopted home—nothing more than a government-sponsored demographic Great Replacement of small-town America. He also wants to increase guest worker visas by tying them to “economic needs.”
