Scott Alexander sums up story behind the British Plan of a few weeks ago to build herd immunity: The British reversal A UK critical care doctor on Reddit wrote a great explanation of their recent about-face on coronavirus strategy. They say that over the past few years, Britain developed a cutting-edge new strategy for dealing with pandemics by building herd immunity. It was actually really novel...

Earlier: John Derbyshire Is Still A Coronavirus Agnostic, But He’s Wearing A Mask

We all have our inclinations and tendencies, deriving ultimately, I suppose, from genetic predispositions.

I was, for example, deeply unsurprised to see that Lady Ann published a fine spirited skeptical piece about Coronavirus on March 25th here at VDARE.com:

We'll get no BREAKING NEWS alerts for the regular flu deaths (so far this season, more than 23,000, compared to 533 from the coronavirus).

Nor for the more than 3,000 people who die every day of heart disease or cancer. No alerts for the hundreds who die each day from car accidents, illegal aliens and suicide.

Only coronavirus deaths are considered newsworthy.

The opinion cut about the Coronavirus pandemic—red v. blue, gentry v. proles, cloud people v. dirt people, Tutsis v. Hutus—is as plain as it can be. The best evidence of this is a chart produced by the polling company Civiqs, reproduced in the March 21st New York Times.

From: A New York Healthcare Worker [Email him] “Put on your masks!,” a nurse shouts at the maskless certified nurse aides (CNAs) working under her at a New York Hospital. They all laugh, and go back to their work, without their masks. It’s a big joke to them. The CNAs who refused to wear their masks were all black immigrants from the Caribbean. The nurse was not black. I know of at least one black ...

From the upcoming Radio Derb, now available exclusively on VDARE.com What Radio Derb listeners really want to know, of course, is how they are coping in Turkmenistan. I can report that Radio Derb's good friend and supporter President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov of that country has been characteristically ingenious. Michael Edison Hayden [Tweet him], “investigative reporter” a.k.a. Cultural Marxist Enforcer for the Southern Poverty Law Center’s HateWatch, has been spying on VDARE.com’s recent purchase of Berkeley Springs Castle in Berkeley Springs WVA. He’s found and interviewed a few local Leftists (most of them, we’re told, are Washington D.C. interlopers) [West Virginia Tourist Hub Rejects VDARE’s ‘Negative’ Message, by Michael Edison Hayden, SPLC HateWatch, March 19, 2020]. And his Twitter followers have responded with terroristic threats.

Hayden tweeted:

Hayden mustn’t have noticed that we explicitly deny being “white nationalists.” And under the Fair Housing Act, you can be investigated by HUD's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity  or sued if you “organize a response” to a black or other protected organization moving into your town. [24 CFR § 100.65, (b) (7)]

It is generally illegal to “shut down” conferences, even if the American Renaissance, and it’s really illegal to use force, as Antifa has been doing for years, with minimal legal pushback.

Hayden writes in his polemic (perhaps I should call it a “screed”):

VDARE described their purchase of the castle in vague terms on their website, referring to it as a “meeting place.” VDARE has struggled to stage conferences in recent years due to public opposition to their agenda, and would likely benefit from owning a facility in which to hold large scale events. After the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado declined to host VDARE’s 2018 conference, for example, the group filed a lawsuit against the city’s mayor. The residence in Berkeley Springs could theoretically help VDARE avoid such headaches. [Links in original]

The issue in Colorado Springs, evaded by Hayden, is that RINO Mayor John Suthers stated that he wouldn’t provide police protection to a conference threatened by protests i.e. Antifa, a clear violation of our civil rights. To fight the coronavirus at home, France is removing all military forces from Iraq. When NATO scaled back its war games in Europe because of the pandemic, Russia reciprocated. Moscow announced it would cancel its war games along NATO's border. Earlier by Patrick J. Buchanan: Must We Kill the Economy to Kill the Virus?

If, as the evidence suggests, the Chinese virus is enormously dangerous to people with certain medical conditions and those over 70 years old, but a much smaller danger to those under 70, then shutting down the entire country indefinitely is probably a bad idea.

But even when the time is right—by Easter, June or the fall—there will be no one to stop the quarantine because the media will continue to hype every coronavirus death, as if these are the only deaths that count and the only deaths that were preventable.

What mayor, governor or president will be willing to take the blame for causing a coronavirus death?

We’ll get no BREAKING NEWS alerts for the regular flu deaths (so far this season, more than 23,000, compared to 533 from the coronavirus).

Nor for the more than 3,000 people who die every day of heart disease or cancer. No alerts for the hundreds who die each day from car accidents, illegal aliens and suicide.

Only coronavirus deaths are considered newsworthy.

We’re told by the “Quarantine Everybody” crowd: Listen to the scientists! Unfortunately, most of the “scientists” they present to us are lawyers. (How did Robert Reich, Donna Shalala and Ron Klain become medical professionals?)

Also, the scientists disagree.

Just as, I assume, they did in 1976, when epidemiologists warned of another 1918 Spanish flu pandemic after a few young Army recruits died of swine flu at Fort Dix in New Jersey. Eight months later, the federal government launched a mandatory swine flu vaccination program.

Earlier, by Michelle Malkin: ADL, Antifa and Koch—Toxic Anti-Trump League

When I think of "essential" workers in America, the smear merchants of the Anti-Defamation League are at the bottom of the barrel. For decades, they've demonized conservatives and Christians as agents of "hate" and treated our very existence as incitements to violence. The ADL's manufactured outrage machine has broadened its target list to anyone remotely critical of Israel for any reason, President Donald Trump, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, "America First" college students, innocuous hand gestures, cartoon frogs and anyone who dares to think or write that "It's OK to be white."

Now, in the wake of the "Chinese flu" pandemic, ADL is lining up with all the other federal bailout vultures clamoring for free money. This week, the group issued a statement calling on Congress to include "relief for charities" in any COVID-19 legislation. "In times of crisis," ADL self-righteously urged, "nonprofits are on the front lines, ready to respond and serve communities across the nation—but funds are needed to continue doing so." The "relief package" pushed by ADL and several hundred other groups demands $60 billion in "emergency stimulus funding to support our work... during this time of crisis and need."
