Unreported Small Trump Triumph: Mexico, Guatemala Slam Door On Caravan

President Trump has received too little credit for the hard-nosed policies that have persuaded Mexico and some Central American countries to stop illegal aliens down there before they reach our border. In March, for instance, in response to the Chinese Virus, he ordered the immediate deportation of apprehended illegals.

Recently, another “migrant” caravan, this one 4,000-strong, began marching north from Honduras, but Guatemalan authorities stopped it. This one was mostly Hondurans, with smaller groups of other nationalities [Una nueva caravana de migrantes sale de Honduras rumbo a EEUU en medio de la pandemia (“A new caravan of migrants leaves Honduras for the US amid the pandemic”), Univision, October 1, 2020].

Even the deputy foreign minister of Honduras, Nelly Jerez,

…advised her fellow Hondurans that the chances of a caravan entering the United States were ‘null’ and called on them not to expose themselves to the pandemic and the growing ‘xenophobia’ in Guatemala and Mexico.

[Caravana migrante desde Honduras ingresa a la fuerza a Guatemala y sin test de covid-19 (“Migrant Caravan Enters Guatemala by Force and Without COVID-19 Test”) Prensa Libre, October 5, 2020].

Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei, who tested positive for coronavirus in mid-September, authorized national and local governments to deal with the Honduran invasion. “We will not permit foreigners using illegal measures to contaminate Guatemalans and put them at risk,” the president vowed [Caravana migrante: Giammattei declara estado de Prevención; hondureños serán detenidos y retornados (“Migrant Caravan: Giammattei Declares State of Prevention; Hondurans Will Be Detained and Returned”) by Irving Escobar, Prensa Libre, October 1, 2020].

The caravan was travelling across Guatemala in at least three groups. By October 2, some had turned back to Honduras. Others fought back with throwing sticks, stones, and Molotov cocktails.

By October 3,  Guatemala had detained several thousand migrants in the vast and sparsely inhabited Guatemalan department of Peten:

Hunger and a wall of soldiers ended this Saturday [October 3] the American dream of at least 2,000 Hondurans who crossed Guatemala in search of arriving in a caravan to the United States, while other Hondurans resisted surrender.

[El hambre y un muro de soldados acaban con el sueño americano de hondureños  (“Hunger and a Wall of Soldiers End the American Dream of Hondurans”) Agencia EFE, October 3, 2020].

The remaining thousand were on their way to Mexico, albeit in smaller groups.

Some migrants reached the Mexican border and were crossing the Suchiate river on rafts [Caravana de migrantes: grupos llegan a México y comienzan a cruzar la frontera (“Migrant Caravan: Groups arrive to Mexico and begin to cross the border”) by William Oliva and Mynor Toc, La Prensa Libre, October 3, 2020].

But Mexican authorities reinforced the border with Guatemala. And on October 5, Mexico’s Milenio reported that “migratory, police and military authorities of Guatemala stopped and broke up the caravan of migrants on its territory”[Tras desarticulación de caravana migrante, frontera de México vuelve a normalidad (“After Breakup of Migrant Caravan, Border of Mexico Returns to Normal”) by Julio Navarro].

Summary: Guatemalan security forces stopped the caravan and sent the Hondurans back home where they belong.

Granted, small groups of illegals are wandering the jungles of Guatemala and eastern Mexico, but they will probably soon be captured or surrender.

Trump actually has a pattern of small immigration triumphs, achieved by executive action. But why should the Main Stream Media report them when he himself is not mentioning them in his re-election campaign?

Question: What happens if Joe Biden wins in November? Will he pressure Mexico and Central America to stop the caravans?

AMLO Says The Caravan Was Organized To Sway U.S. Election

In a recent press conference, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador shared an interesting theory about the caravan:

“It’s very strange that this caravan departs on the eve of the U.S. election… And how is it that in Honduras…. this group is permitted to organize? … [I] think it has to do with the U.S. election…. there are indications that it was organized with this purpose. I don’t know who benefits from it.”

Versión estenográfica. Conferencia de prensa del presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador del 2 de octubre de 2020 (“Stenographic Version. Press Conference of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of October 2, 2020”) Gob.mx, October 2, 2020]

But here’s something even more interesting, at least Americans who care about the integrity of the election on Nov. 3. Noting that “migration nor Mexico have been topics of debate,” AMLO said his county’s interference in our election has stopped.

“We have made every effort not to involve our country in the campaigns or the U.S. campaign and this is a big difference from the last election,” he said.

In others, AMLO confessed that his country—before he took office and stopped it—meddled in the 2016 election when his predecessor’s regime tried to get Mexicans to vote against Trump.

Better yet, AML offered kind, get-well wishes for Trump and FLOTUS to beat the Chinese Virus:

And let me take advantage of the opportunity to wish the President of the United States and his wife a speedy recovery, because he is infected, he tested positive for COVID and we wish for him and his wife to recover quickly.

But that’s hardly a surprise. As I have reported often in the past, he has carefully cultivated good relations with President Trump and refused to criticize him.

Previously: Biden, Wallace, Media Rout Trump With “White Supremacy” Bogeyman—Helped By His Own Appointees. It’s His Fault, For Quarrelling With Ann Coulter

Unfortunately, this week’s vice presidential debate—occurring after this column goes out—is unlikely to be something you’d see in the Turkish parliament, like we had last week. But I expect one similarity: There will be ZERO questions about any major issues, like crime, immigration, globalism, the endless riots, our insane foreign policy or what Wall Street is doing.

More like: Our next question is about transgender adoption.

And of course, Vice President Mike Pence will be asked to “condemn” white supremacy. Redeeming America from the bogeyman of “white supremacy” is apparently the media’s main argument against Trump.

Earlier this summer on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” the Democrats’ vice presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, cheered on the protests that have been creating havoc since May:

They’re not gonna stop. They’re not gonna stop, and this is a movement, I’m telling you. They’re not gonna stop, and everyone beware, because they’re not gonna stop. They’re not gonna stop before Election Day in November, and they’re not gonna stop after Election Day. Everyone should take note of that, on both levels, that they’re not going to let up—and they should not. And we should not.”

But Harris won’t be asked about that. According to USA Today’s fact check, she never said any such thing. The newspaper rated the claim that Harris supported the destructive protests—which, again, is on video—“PARTLY FALSE” on the grounds that Harris referred to “protests, not “riots.”

Those were “peaceful protests”!

President Donald Trump projected strength, authority, and leadership after he recovered from COVID-19. The optics were undeniably impressive when President Trump dramatically removed his mask and saluted Marine One. The resulting meltdown of the Main Stream Media/Dem Complex was amusing. Those may not be the values our fallen country wants in a leader anymore. But they’re what we need.

One could palpably sense the MSM and the entertainment industry’s disappointment when President Trump didn’t die. Actor Jim Carrey, whose Twitter feed is practically deranged, “joked” about “science and karma” teaming up to show the danger of the virus [SNL doesn’t hold back on jokes about Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis: ‘There’s a lot funny about this, by Emily Yahr, National Post, October 5, 2020]. (There’s similar morbid anticipation about Stephen Miller, who was just diagnosed with COVID-19 and who we hope recovers quickly [Stephen Miller tests positive for COVID-19, by John Bowden and Brett Samuels, The Hill, October 6, 2020]).

But of course no-one would ever dare “joke” about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, or for that matter the sainted George Floyd, unless you were unconcerned about your economic and physical safety.

Nonetheless, our president, a relatively old and undoubtedly obese man who is not noted for his healthy diet or exercise habits, beat the disease with relative ease over a weekend—apparently in part thanks to the Remdesivir treatment.

He returned in typically Trumpian style, flying back dramatically to the White House on Marine One and then saluting the Marines from the balcony [Trump back at White House after being discharged from Walter Reed, by Melissa Quinn et al., CBS News, October 6, 2020]. Trump also spoke against letting the virus “dominate” your life.

The optics were undeniably impressive. Aesthetics are an important part of governance, as great leaders have known from the beginning.

Needless to say, this led to cries of fascism and authoritarianism. Apparently, using a balcony is now itself quasi-fascist, though every president has done it since Truman built the thing in the Fifties.

And President Trump stripped off his mask while on the balcony, which itself triggered countless hit pieces.

Of course, there’s no point to wearing a mask when you are by yourself, outside, at your own residence. It would be like wearing a mask in a car by yourself—which, for some reason, some people do. Such antics are either virtue-signaling or, if imposed, a humiliation ritual. The latter may be the point [Commentary: The media’s insane reaction to Trump’s balcony appearance proves that they WANT you to live in fear, by Leon Wolf, The Blaze, October 6, 2020].
