Base Dragging GOP, Conservatism Inc. Into Fight Against Critical Race Theory—But They Still Flinch From Calling It Anti-White Racism

Barack Obama claims he can’t believe Republicans have attacked Critical Race Theory, and dismisses their alarm as nothing more than “resentment” over the demographic dispossession of whites. “Lo and behold the single most important issue to [Republicans] apparently right now is Critical Race Theory,” he told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “Who knew that was the threat to our Republic?” [Obama Says His Daughters Think Cancel Culture Goes Too Far, by Rachel Sharp, Daily Mail, June 7, 2021]. Yet Obama’s feigned innocence suggests that he knows Democrats have overplayed their hand, and that the GOP/GAP has blundered on to something. However, it will have to find the courage to follow the incisive recent advice of REVOLVER’s anonymous editorialist:

“The nature of America’s new extremism wave requires the right to be honest and frank about what it is. It’s not ‘socialism,’ or ‘Marxism,’ or ‘liberal fascism.’ In 2021, America is facing a steadily-growing amount of anti-white racism” America’s Rotten Academic Establishment Vomits Out More Demented Anti-White Rhetoric, June 12, 2021

Still, the GOP is fighting back. Florida banned CRT from its schools and specifically excluded the anti-white—and historically flawed—1619 Project from curricula. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis dubbed CRT “state-sanctioned racism” and said it would only produce divisions [Florida bans critical race theory amid a wave of conservative backlash against the legal framework, by Erin Snodgrass, Insider, June 10, 2021]. Arkansas, Idaho, Oklahoma, and Tennessee have also banned CRT in schools. Similar bills await the governor’s signature in Iowa, Kentucky, New Hampshire, and Texas. Lawmakers in other states have also proposed measures to block this anti-white menace [The states taking steps to ban critical race theory, by Anuli Ononye and Jackson Walker, The Hill, June 9, 2021].

America is going through a Cultural Revolution, but we counter revolutionaries can draw some instruction and perhaps encouragement from the fact that this drama has been played out before, in China from 1966 to 1976.

We shouldn't get too carried away with the comparison. There are of course important differences between China's Cultural Revolution and ours. Most importantly, Mao's China was monoracial, or effectively so. The key battles of his Cultural Revolution were fought over class, whereas in ours the central issue is race.

That doesn't mean we are fighting a race war, any more than Mao's Red Guards were fighting a class war. When China's Cultural Revolution started, the Communist Party had held total power for seventeen years. Capitalism had been pretty thoroughly stamped out, just as anti-black discrimination has long since disappeared from American life.

But Mao told his followers that "bourgeois elements" were at work in the party, trying to restore capitalism. Similarly, our own ruling class say that reactionary whites are plotting to restore "white supremacy," which I think means Jim Crow laws.

Both those story lines are preposterous on the face of it; but when you have total control of public information, as Mao had and our elites very nearly have, you can get enough people to believe preposterosities.

2021’s Most Boring National News Story is that a high school announced last week that students named, say, A and B were the valedictorian and salutatorian of the senior class, but then people pointed out that the school administration had used the wrong definition of grade point average. According to the published rules for calculating GPA, instead X and Y deserve the honor. So the school decided ...

German governments have used two strategies to crush dissent in the last century. The Third Reich used Gleichschaltung, or “coordination,” with the state pushing public and private organizations into line with National Socialism. Communist East Germany used Zersetzung, “decomposition,” with its Stasi secret police wrecking the personal lives, careers, and reputations of dissidents. White advocates face both tactics today.

However, there’s a third example from Germany. It’s arguably worse than the other two because its goal isn’t just to force obedience. It’s to instill shame.

It’s Vergangenheitsaufarbeitung, “working off the past.” It means re-interpreting your history as something shameful. It’s what Germany’s rulers have forced on their people, and it’s what the Washington Post wants to do to us.

Working for American Renaissance is sometimes hard because we must report bad news, and the news from Germany is almost always bad. Germany is not free. The state arrests citizens for saying the wrong things. The ironically named “Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution” spies on the nationalist Alternative for Germany party. A politician from the governing “conservative” party openly told her constituents that they shouldn’t worry about being a minority in their own country. Few Germans think they can speak openly.

Still, as we have reported, what is arguably uniquely German is the deep-seated self-loathing.

  • “Many Germans themselves treat any assertion of national German pride as a manifestation of neo-Nazi tendencies, as something hideously offensive and shameful.” —Frank Ellis, “The German Death Wish,” February 2011
  • “Not only do Germans still have an ingrained horror of nationalism to a degree unusual even among Western nations, there are laws criminalizing Volksverhetzung or ‘incitement to hatred’ that can be broadly interpreted.” —John Jackson, “Confessions of a German Police Chief,” March 25, 2016
  • “May Angela Merkel’s ‘New Germany’ serve as a warning to whites everywhere.” —Thorsten Pattberg, “The Transformation of Germany,” February 5, 2021

Michele Norris (right) at the Washington Post thinks this is a model for us. She argues America should pursue Vergangenheitsaufarbeitung, which she calls a “decades-long exercise, beginning in the 1960s, to examine, analyze, and ultimately learn to live with an evil chapter through monuments, teachings, art, architecture and public policy.”

Germany, she says approvingly, “looks at its Nazi past by consistently, almost obsessively, memorializing the victims of that murderous era, so much that it is now a central feature of the nation’s cultural landscape.” Students learn about the “horrible and shameful [Nazi] chapter in the nation’s past,” any “symbol of the Nazi era” is illegal, Holocaust denial is illegal, and police officers spend years of training that includes Holocaust history. Perhaps this focus is why German police seem unable to stop crime disproportionately committed by Muslims.

Michele Norris describes the countless memorials that immerse Germans in shame. To her credit, she honestly describes exactly what such an effort would look like in America:

I've been telling myself for twenty years that America’s ongoing Cultural Revolution couldn't get any worse. But year by year it has gotten worse. The Red Guards now control all our major media outlets, including of course Social Media, and the entire educational system, public and private, from kindergarten to the Ivy League. This new Biden Administration has radicalized the federal government, too: the judiciary, the agencies, even the military have all been put in the hands of Red Guards.

What is it, this poisonous weed, this kudzu smothering our culture and silencing some of our smartest and most eloquent voices?

Well, if you've been paying attention, you'll know that a central concept in the revolutionary mindset, a central target of the Red Guards, is whiteness.

So, in hopes of improving our understanding, let's take a short trip down Anti Whiteness Lane.

My starting point here: a group discussion broadcast by MSNBC on Morning Joe, June 8, 2021. There were five people in the discussion, four whites and a token mulatto lady named Mara Gay. Of the four whites, two were MSNBC Woke Bots whose names are vaguely familiar to me; I don't know who the other two were.

The mulatto lady, Ms. Gay [Tweet her] is a prominent Regime Media journalist: a columnist at the New York Times and a member of that newspaper's Editorial Board.

That's pretty damn good at age 34. Given her color, we are of course bound to suspect that Ms. Gay was raised to that height like a sailplane by warm thermals of Affirmative Action.

The Biden Rush on the U.S. Southern Border is now so bad that even the useless Republican National Committee chairthing Ronna McDaniel has felt emboldened to mention it:

Which is progress. At least McDaniel isn’t repeating the “Family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande” complacency about the illegal influx that typified the brain-dead Bush Blight.

Just-released CBP data shows that border apprehensions continued to increase in May [Illegal border crossing attempts reach new high under Biden: 180,000 in May, by Anna Giaritelli, Yahoo News,  June 9, 2021]

Why aren’t Republicans screaming from the rooftops about the Democrats’ plans to change voting rules to give themselves an advantage?

Their sleazy election bills, HR 1, the “For the People Act,” and HR 4, the “John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act,” are intended to help Democrats win majorities in both houses of Congress, at which point they will ignore Republicans entirely, end the filibuster, and pass everything in AOC’s Dream Journal—amnesty, gun control, a wealth tax, and a rainbows and unicorns energy bill.
