VDARE.COM Editor Peter Brimelow
writes:
As you read this, I will be on a week's vacation
with Hannah Claire and Alexander [see picture:

in the Rocky Mountains, cut off by their special
request-in fact, demand-from internet and telephone.
In the two and a half years since their mother died,
it's been a blessing to my family that I've been
able to work from home on VDARE.COM through the
miracle of the internet. Just as, through the
miracle of the internet, we can see that patriotic
resistance to America's abolition by immigration
policy is beginning to assemble itself in defiance
of the political Establishment, liberal and
"conservative".
But the downside, from Hannah Claire and Alexander's
point of view: getting VDARE.COM up to its current
gratifying speed has been an immense amount of work.
We post every day, and our articles are of top
professional quality-they are articles that should
be appearing in the Mainstream Media but never will,
because the threatening consequences of immigration
is a taboo subject there.
It's a tremendous amount of work, too, for the
wonderful VDARE.COM team I've assembled-working out
of their homes on a shoestring, quite probably
sacrificing any chance of a career in Establishment
journalism, but able to beat the best the MSM has to
offer and make a difference to the future of their
country.
However, we cannot continue to do it without your
help.
I care a lot about the America that Hannah Claire
and Alexander will be living in, God willing, in
2050. I won't be here, of course. But I still care.
Any parent or grandparent will understand.
This is what I see:
On May 25, despite heroic resistance from some
patriotic Senators, the U.S. Senate passed
S.2611-which should properly be called the
Kennedy-Bush Amnesty/ Immigration Acceleration bill,
since it is fundamentally a Democratic measure,
supported by only a minority of Senate Republicans,
made possible solely by the fanatical support of the
Bush White House. Among many other awful things,
including amnesty, this disgusting special-interest
feeding frenzy will AT LEAST DOUBLE LEGAL
IMMIGRATION from its current unprecedented highs. It
is a further, giant step towards abolishing America.
It is quite plainly treason.
HOW CAN THEY DO THIS TO OUR CHILDREN?
Unprecedented grass-roots patriotic resistance, in
which I am happy to say we at VDARE.COM played a
part, has stalled this legislation-for now.
But the fact must be faced that Kennedy-Bush, or
some poisonous part of it, may well pass the House
and become law. The moral of recent immigration
legislation history is that Washington's insiders
have ways of making elected officials talk-and vote.
Judging from VDARE.COM's huge email traffic, the
controversy over the Senate's sell-out has for the
first time alerted many ordinary Americans to what
is being done to their country and to their
children's future. They have fought hard to prevent
it. They may very well be shocked and dismayed if it
goes through.
But, as a scarred veteran of the struggle for
patriotic immigration reform, I am not. It has been
obvious for some time that this will be a long and
terrible war.
And, amid the lies and hysteria that invariably
accompany any immigration-enthusiast assault on
America, there is clear evidence that immigration
reform patriots are making progress-and that they
will continue to make progress, until ultimately
they and their cause prevail.
After a trauma like a stroke, the human brain is
galvanized to rewire itself around the damaged area.
Exactly the same process has been underway among
immigration reform patriots. As we've said before on
VDARE.COM, it took thirty years for Americans to cut
off the last (1880-1920) Great Wave of immigration.
By that measure, however unlikely it may now appear,
in two or three election cycles the next cut-off
will be here.
The immigration issue has been gathering over
American politics like an immense thundercloud. At
first, you get lightning flashes-noble individuals
who run as token protest candidates, like our
columnist Joe Guzzardi in the 2003 California
gubernatorial race. Then you get thunder-contested
primaries. Then you get isolated raindrops -captured
nominations. Then, you get flurries of
raindrops-election victories. Then the storm
breaks-the movement comes to power.
It takes time. But you get to recognize the signs.
And it will take money. And this is where I have to
turn to you for help.
At VDARE.COM, we exist to provide journalism on
these problems because the MSM won't. In case anyone
has forgotten, the problems include: crime; disease;
destroyed schools; destroyed neighborhoods;
congestion; racial friction; linguistic
displacement; wage depression; welfare costs;
political displacement; and, last but of course not
least, the abolition of America.
Our writers are paid very little. But they do need
something. The ability to pay our writers is what
has distinguished VDARE.COM from a host of excellent
but evanescent blogs which have come and gone. We
are in it for the long haul.
In every sense. A few weeks ago, I asked a
congressional aide what would happen if some version
of Kennedy-Bush passes. He reacted with horror. "It
would be the end of America," he said. "I'd have to
emigrate."
It's that serious.
Of course, Kennedy-Bush would indeed eventually be
the end of America as a nation-state-the political
expression of a particular people. But, to
paraphrase Winston Churchill's speech at a not
dissimilar moment of peril in British history,
although America should have fought on the beaches,
I am confident that, should the worst happen,
America will fight in the hills.
VDARE.COM will be there to help-if you help us.
Please give whatever you can. I will be most
grateful. And if we can afford more editing help,
Hannah Claire and Alexander will be grateful to you
for letting me spend more time with them too.
